Exotic Crispy Fried Mealworms


What is a Mealworm? A Mealworm is the larval form of the Mealworm Beetle. It is scientifically named Tenebrio molitor, a species of Darkling Beetle. These creatures usually measure about 2.5 cm or more.



They are easily raised on fresh oats, whole wheat bran or grain. Sliced of carrots, potatoes and apples are usually added as their source of water.

Ingredients:
  • ¼ kg of Mealworms
  • Cooking oil
  • Salt
  • Monosodium glutamate (optional)



Procedure:

Heat the pan. Add cooking oil and pour Mealworms. Mix continuously. Add salt to taste. Pour some msg. wait until mealworms are crispy. Serve hot in a bowl.

Mealworms are also commonly used as feed for reptiles, fish, and birds, and are easily obtained from supply companies. They grow best in well-ventilated containers eight to ten inches deep with large surface areas, and smooth sides to prevent them from escaping. The mealworms are mostly nocturnal and prefer a dark environment.
